Athens Pedion tou Areos

Pedion tou Areos is one of the largest parks in Athens. It can be spotted near the center of the capital, within walking distance from the neighborhoods of Kipseli, Exarchia and Omonia! It is a popular spot for a good walk or a family visit during the weekends, given its dense vegetation, large squares, cyclic pathways, and available sitting areas!

Shaped into a park in 1934, this park is widely known for hosting a large central statue dedicated to Athena, the ancient goddess of wisdom, and a statue of the horseback King Constantine the First! On top of that, it also boasts the Avenue of Heroes in order to commemorate important figures of the Greek War of Independence, including the statues of Theodoros Kolokotronis, Athanasios Diakos, Markos Botsaris, Manto Mavrogenous, Kitsos Tzavelas, and the stunning monument of Alexandros Ypsilantis.

Furthermore, this park is a place of public workout, since by taking a walk through its amenities, one will spot a gym and training facilities, yoga classes, and groups having an intense workout session! In addition, the park houses the open-air Alsos theater, the Aliki cinema, the Gardenia refreshment spot, and Protomagia Square, a place that hosts plenty of fun events, outdoor parties, and bazaars with handmade items! Moreover, two church buildings on-site also make the park worth a visit, namely the Church of the Archangels Taxiarches and the Church of Saint Charalampos.

Tip: We advise visitors to visit Pedion tou Areos during the daytime; it is safe as hundreds of people take a stroll.
However, please be careful late at night, as crime incidents have been reported. If the park is on your way, it is best to go by the main illuminated streets.

There are many ways to reach Pedion tou Areos from any location in Athens.
