The huge limestone rocks offer many chances for extreme things to do in Meteora. The best way to explore this magnificent region is to walk from the feet of the rocks up to the monasteries on top of them. Avoid the crowds, choose a pathway and explore the amazing nature. Many paths leading to monasteries depart from the towns of Kalambaka or Kastraki. If you wish to enter the monastery at the end of your path, make sure that it will be open because opening hours vary from one monastery to the other.
Meteora is also a fabulous place for rock climbing. The impressive vertical rocks of Meteora provide the most amazing spot for climbing. in fact, there are many climbing expeditions there, particularly in autumn and spring, but not in the rocks where the monasteries are constructed, following an agreement between climbers and the local monks to respect the monastic privacy.
