Alonissos Tourism

Located in the Northern Sporades, close to the islands of Skopelos and Skiathos, Alonissos is beloved for its heavenly nature and beaches with crystalline waters.

Tourism in Alonissos is popular among families and couples. This is an island characterized by a rich diversity of scenery. It is no wonder that Alonissos is highly preferred by nature lovers for its countless picturesque paths and gorgeous beaches. Most beaches on the island are surrounded by lush greenery and rugged hills, adding to their unique beauty. Agios Dimitrios is perhaps the most famous beach, while Votsi, Chrisi Milia, and Glyfa are also popular swimming spots.

Patitiri, the capital of Alonissos, is its best-developed settlement, with plenty of accommodations, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The old capital of Alonissos, Chora, exudes a much more traditional atmosphere. Whitewashed houses with colorful shutters and vibrant gardens line its stone alleys and paint a wonderful picture. The small fishing villages of Steni Vala and Votsi are also among the top tourist destinations and are well-known for their high-quality seafood served in charming seaside taverns.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest attractions is the National Marine Park. Comprising Alonissos and six smaller islands, this is the first marine park in Greece and the largest in the Mediterranean. It aims to conserve the large variety of terrestrial and marine species found here, including hundreds of plants and animals. This is a must-visit for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts, allowing them to explore the rich biodiversity of the Mediterranean and swim in beautiful underwater environments. Also worth visiting is the mesmerizing Blue Cave found north of Agios Petros Beach.

Visitors can move around the island by public bus, with daily routes departing from Patitiri and stopping at Chora and Steni Vala. Taxis are also available in the central spots, however, securing one during the high season may be difficult. Alternatively, you can rent a private vehicle and explore the island at your own pace.

Alonissos is not majorly developed, which makes it a great alternative for visitors who love privacy and relaxation. Local hiking trails allow trekking enthusiasts to explore a large part of the island on foot. There is no tourism office in Alonissos, however, there are some travel agencies close to the port where visitors can collect information for their trip. There is also no tourist police, so visitors can contact the local police station for any issues that might arise.
