General information

Avra Beach in Aegina: Avra is the closest beach to Aegina Town! What makes it stand out, though, is that it is just in front of the archaeological site of Kolona, the only surviving column of the Temple of Apollo! Snorkel on its shores and spot the remnants of the island’s ancient port looming inside the crystal-clear blue sea!

Strewn with fine pebbles and sand, Avra is a partly organized beach with umbrellas and inexpensive sunbeds, rental boats, and catamarans. There is also a playground opposite the beach, meaning that Avra is perfect for families with little children. However, there are no other amenities such as toilets, changing rooms, or showers. To make up for that, there is an abundance of restaurants and taverns, inviting visitors to try out the local cuisine and savor a shot of tsipouro while watching ships and boats ceaselessly coming and going, bearing witness to Aegina’s allure.

This spot place also boasts fantastic views of the neighboring islands of Agistri, Methana, and the Peloponnese, as well as the sunset. Near the beach, one will also find a small boatyard, where quaint wooden fishing boats are built or repaired using traditional techniques. Furthermore, Avra Beach hosts the annual Aegina International Music Festival in August, a festival that brings together both emerging and established Greek and international artists from the world of classical music.
