Mycenae Geography

Famous for its legendary history, Mycenae is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. It is found in the Peloponnese area, between Argos and Nafplion. Mycenae is the place where the ancient Mycenaean civilization prospered, the kingdom of Agamemnon, the ruler of the Greeks in the war against Troy. The Acropolis of Mycenae was built at a high altitude, about 280 m above the sea, between two steep hills. It is hidden from the hills.

The geography of Mycenae is pretty interesting. It is one of the most beautiful areas of Peloponnese characterized by imposing mountains which rise over the palaces and archaeological treasures of ancient Mycenae. Due to the rugged landscape, farming was difficult and quite challenging for the locals, thus Mycenae is mainly characterized by the infertile soil and wild hills. The archaeological site of Mycenae follows the natural landscape of the region which very much resembles the whole Peloponnese.
