Kalavryta is one of the most popular winter destinations in Peloponnese, particularly among the Greeks. The mountain town of Kalavryta is blessed by nature but it is also considered as one of the most tragic places in Greece. On December 1943, the German troops burnt down the village and killed all male inhabitants on a hill above the town, where the Massacre Monument is found today.
However, today the wounds are healed and Kalavryta has become extremely tourist, mainly due to the close ski centre in Mount Helmos. The surrounding region is also great for hiking in spring, as it has many nice sightseeing. Tourism in Kalavryta is mostly developing in winter months.
