General information about Lefkada

Lefkada is a beautiful island with a mountainous landscape and wonderful beaches. The main town is situated on the northern spot of the island and can be accessed from the mainland by a narrow causeway. The western coast of Lefkada has some of the best beaches in the world. Porto Katsiki, Kathisma and Egremni have the most amazing exotic water. Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki are very popular beaches for windsurfing and kite surfing.

The center of the island is mountainous and has small villages. Driving around will get you traveling past vineyards and large olive groves. The eastern side of Lefkada has tourist places, like Nidri, Nikiana, and Vassiliki, but the most impressive beaches are located on the west.

Our impressions

The beaches of western Lefkada (Porto Katsiki, Egremni, Kathisma, Kalamitsi, Mylos) are among the best in Greece. The water is crystal and exotic, although extra attention is required because often waves are large. Lefkada is a nice island for family holidays. Nightlife is mostly active in Lefkada Town and Nidri, but nothing excessive. Buses are frequent in high season and also there are many boat tours that serve tourists.

Arriving at the airport

The closest airport in Lefkada is in Aktion-Preveza, which receives charter flights in summer (no domestic flights). There is a bus to Lefkada every time a plane arrives.

Road network

The majority of the road network in Lefkada is asphalt. However, due to the mountainous landscape, the roads are winding and narrow (one line per direction).
