Location: Vathy Don't miss: Museums guide (free admission dates and other useful info)
The Nautical Museum of Ithaca: The Folklore and Nautical Museum of Ithaca are situated in the town of Vathi, capital of the island. The museum is housed in a building that once operated as an old generating station and the exhibits testify about the life of the people of Ithaca during the colonial period.
Complete settings of bedrooms, kitchen, and sitting rooms from that period are also on display, as well as rare and poignant photographs of the earthquake that shook the island in 1953. The Folklore and Nautical museum is an important place to visit. It houses traditional dress, embroidery, musical instruments and workshop tools used by our ancestors, etchings, and relics par excellence.
