General information

Arkassa Beach is located about 2 km from the village of Arkassa and 16 km southwest of Pigadia. Also known as Agios Nikolaos Beach, it boasts a beautiful sandy coast and crystal blue waters. The waters can get pretty choppy, so swimmers are advised to be cautious and steer clear of the left side of the beach as there are markers in the water for currents.

The beach is fairly well-organized, offering plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds for hire. You will also find a public shower and a few changing rooms. Because of the impressively large waves, Arkassa is one of the best windsurfing spots in Karpathos. It is also an ideal sunbathing spot, where you can relax under the shade of the umbrellas and take in the stunning mountainous terrain.

The on-site beach bar offers refreshing beverages and a selection of snacks, while beach-goers can also venture to the nearby restaurant and enjoy delectable dishes made with authentic Mediterranean recipes. The charming Church of Agia Sofia is just a 4-minute walk from the beach and is worth a visit while in the area. A small hiking trail leads you to Paleokastro Hill, where the Acropolis of Ancient Arkassa resides.

    Agios Nikolaos Arkassa excellent beach
In many reviews they will tell you not to visit west side of Karpathos, but that is a mistake! Agios Nikolaos and Agios Theodoros are beaches in Arkassa that are wonderful. They are organized, but Theodoros is a bit far. Theodoros has no wind, it is partly pebbled, partly sandy and the water is cold. But it is a nice beach and has a clay and people that come here like to put that clay all over their body, it looks funny.
But Agios Nikolaos is better beach. It is sandy, not that windy so you can put your own umbrella. It has showers too. And the water is so warm, you will love it! It has waves but they weren't big, they are good for children. The only bad thing was that it gets crowded in the afternoon, and some local Greeks that come are noisy and not that friendly. But we still think this beach is maybe the best in Karpathos.
