Standing on the edge of the caldera in Fira, the whitewashed Church of Agios Minas (also known as Katofirianos) can be found at the southern part of the old town, overlooking the volcanic landscape & the sea.
Constructed between 1537-1650, the church is dedicated to Saint Minas & Saint Alexios, the Man of God.
It has an impressive white dome, a bell tower with 3 bells & a small terrace with great views of the Aegean Sea.
You will not be able to visit the interior for the most part of the year, except if you visit during its patron Saint celebrations that occur on November 11th. If you do manage to get inside, you will have the opportunity to admire the saint icons, as well as the details carved into the wooden altarpiece.
