The Fisherman Festival of Koufonisia, in the Cyclades: Koufonisia, the small cluster of islands to the south of Naxos, supports its economy mainly on fishing and recently on tourism. That is why the locals organize a Fisherman Festival on their island to celebrate fishing, which has been the main income of the locals for centuries. This feast is celebrated the last Saturday of June in the small port of Pano Koufonisi.
The locals cook fish soup, a delicious local recipe, and offer it to the attendants. Some others make grilled fish in kiosks along the waterfront of Chora. Wine and tsipouro are also offered. Dancing with traditional music follows until the early hours.
