General information

Myrthios is a traditional village with stone houses built on the foothills of Mount Vrysinas, at an altitude of 443 meters above sea level. From there, visitors can admire panoramic views of Plakias Bay and the Libyan Sea.

According to the local tradition, its name derives from a large myrtle (myrtia in Greek) that used to stand at the center of the village. Hiking through the wider area, you will come across ruins of Ottoman fortifications, as well as a series of small caves that served as refuges for the residents during the Second World War. The nearby Kotsyfos Gorge is a great place for hiking, and the impressive Boutsinas waterfall is easily accessible.

The closest large village is Prasses, about 8 kilometers away.
