The Rimondi Fountain is one of the town’s most prominent landmarks. It is located in Platanou Square, which was the town center during Venetian times. It was built in 1626 by Rector A. Rimondi and used to supply a large part of the town’s water needs.
The fountain is a representative piece of a delicate, fine-detailed Venetian architecture style. It consists of three basins below three lion heads where water comes out, and three columns ending in Corinthian capitals, adorned with a Latin inscription. Later, during the Ottoman Occupation period, a hemispherical dome was added above it, from which only one pillar survives.
Water still flows from the lion-shaped taps to this day. You can visit the site any time and take as many photos as you wish!
