General information

The wonderful beach of Pahia Ammos is located 80 km southwest of Chania Town and 20 km east of Agios Nikolaos. It is the largest beach on the northern coast of Ierapetra and has been awarded the Blue Flag for the cleanliness of its waters.

The western side of the beach, which is sandy and not affected by strong winds, is tranquil with crystal-clear, shallow waters. As you move towards the east, the coast becomes more pebbly. Many tourist facilities, like umbrellas and sunbeds, are available around the beach of Pahia Ammos as well as in the popular resort of Paleochora.

Nearby, on the right side of Pahia Ammos Bay, stands the lovely Saint Fotini church, which is really worth a visit. In addition, a few of the ruins of the old Pahia Ammos tower can be found on Hallepa Hill, which is located close to the beach. If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can also rent a kayak or a canoe from a local shop and practice water sports on the sea.
You will find several taverns, cafes, and rooms to let across the shore. Every year, the local clubs host a variety of cultural and sporting events you can attend.
