Chania Georgioupolis beach

General information

Georgioupolis Beach is located 37 km southeast of Chania Town, on the Old National Motorway to Rethymno. It is a long, sandy beach that stretches for over 10 kilometers. Although it is affected by the northern summer winds called meltemia, the beach is very popular, especially on the western side. On the eastern side, you can find some deserted spots if you prefer privacy.

In general, Georgioupolis is a well-organized beach, with sunbeds, umbrellas, changing rooms, and showers. Apart from swimming and sunbathing, you can also practice sea sports, enjoy a refreshing drink at the beach bars, or have a scrumptious meal at the seaside fish taverns. It’s important to know that this beach is not the safest option for children because of the waves caused by the winds and the strong currents underneath. However, they only occur across the coast, so you do not need to worry about getting dragged too deep into the sea.
