Woody Allen and his New Orleans Jazz Band Live in Athens
The world-famous filmmaker, actor, and director Woody Allen and his old-style New Orleans Jazz Band will be performing for the final time in Athens at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus on September 9th, 2023!
Growing up as a large fan of jazz music, Allen picked up the clarinet at age fifteen, and it is said that he has not skipped a day of playing it since! Influenced by the sounds of New Orleans jazz, he has implemented plentiful such songs in his film soundtracks, while he has also been performing sporadically from the late 1960s.
Alongside Allen, his revered New Orleans Jazz Band will accompany him throughout this musical journey! Since 1997, the group has been performing various distinctive tunes reminiscent of early ragtime jazz without ever needing a set playlist, opting instead to improvise on the jazz standards that a band member calls out! Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band consists of Grammy-awarded pianist and arranger Conal Fawkes, trumpeter Simon Wettenhall, trombonist Jerry Zigmont, traditional jazz drummer Kevin Dorn, bassist Brian Nalepka, and guitarist/banjo player Josh Dunn.
