This is Athens - City Festival 2024

May 01, 2024 — Jun 02, 2024 • Category: Events

The lively city of Athens is getting ready to welcome the 3rd Athens City Festival, an annual event that is getting bigger and bigger. For over a month, from May 1st to June 2nd, this year’s festival proposes more than 250 events for people of all ages, organized in four thematic fields: exhibitions, entertainment, gastronomy and outdoor activities. Don’t miss this unique chance to acquaint yourselves with off-the-beaten-track gems of Athens while having the time of your lives!

The Festival opens with an urban street picnic on the 1st of May. Held in the Akadimia Platonos neighborhood, this is a multi-faceted one-day event with live music, DJ sets, educational workshops, kite shows, as well as music and drama performances. Cultural happenings that stand out comprise the 23rd Athens Jazz Festival, a piano festival, traditional music and dancing from all over the country, and a display of traditional Greek costumes and serenades from the Ionian islands. At the same time, several street parties will transform various locations of Athens, such as Lycabettus Hill, into huge dance floors.

Immerse yourself into the sights and history of Athens by going on a tour through the National Historical Museum’s exhibition From Greater to Contemporary Greece: the Refugees, the National Archaeological Museum, and the First Cemetery of Athens, the city’s open-air sculpture gallery. Other tours that should not be missed will take you through the Panathenaic Stadium, Zappeion Megaron and the National Garden, the western hills of Filopappou and Pnyx, Ilissos, the ancient river of Athens, as well as through the unknown history of Ottoman Athens.

For those seeking a unique culinary experience, there is a Food and Wine Experience, combined with a guided tour of the National Gallery, a Cocktail Festival, and, of course, the Athens Street Food Festival 2024, which explores the most exciting and innovative ideas from street cuisines around the world.

Last but not least, there are great events for sports enthusiasts. To name but a few, there is a bike tour of Athens, a museum and gallery bike tour, a skateboarding competition, a fitness fest and even public capoeira sessions.

Many of these events are held on more than one day, so make sure to consult the program on the Festival’s official site.
