Hosting various exhibits, multimedia presentations, and background information leading you into a detailed journey of the Olympic Games, the Athens Olympic Museum was constructed in order to further promote the essence and long-standing tradition of the Olympic Games, as well as pay homage to a plethora of medalists!

Opening its doors in 2021, the museum houses a large permanent exhibition linking the Olympic Games of the ancient world to the present times! Using a timeline approach, it is centered around the three stages of the Olympic Games in Greece, namely the Ancient Olympia, the 1896 revival, and the festivities of 2004 in Athens, while also mentioning the 1906 Intercalated Games! Its interiors boast a wide range of exhibits, such as a bronze disk from 241AD, a handwritten album about the games of 1896, and laurel wreaths, whereas some temporary thematic presentations, like the interactive Ancient Olympia showcase and the Behind the Flame display of photographs by Nikos Zikos, are essential in bringing new life to the museum!

Athens Olympic Museum focuses on the deeper meaning behind the Olympic Games, given that they are inspired by the worldwide concept of human’s everlasting struggle to reach new heights! Also, the museum has a space dedicated to Paralympic athletes, highlighting their constant effort to push themselves to the absolute best of their abilities!

The establishment’s exhibits have been collected with important donations from past Olympic and Paralympic athletes, memorabilia collectors, and big institutions since the museum operates in cooperation with over 40 cultural associations from all over the globe, including the revered Metropolitan Museum of Art, the State Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, the British Museum, and the local Archaeological Museum of Olympia! Plus, it is linked directly with the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens stadium via a footbridge!

The Olympic Museum is open:
- Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 18:00 during the winter season (October 1 until May 31)
- Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 during the summer season (June 1 until September 30)
