General information

The settlement of Baltiza used to be the old harbor of Spetses and lies close to Dapia. It is a natural harbor, deeply penetrating the soft coastline of the island. During the 18th and 19th centuries, Baltiza was the base of the developed ship-building activity of Spetses, an ongoing activity to this day.

In the summer, Baltiza becomes a cosmopolitan place full of yachts and sailboats. The harbor is quite picturesque during the winter time as well, though, as it is surrounded by little fishing boats.

While in the area, visitors can pay a visit to the lighthouse of Spetses, standing on a little peninsula, along with an old cannon battery. Another not-to-miss is the white and yellow church of Panagia Armata that overlooks the port, surrounded by old cannons. The view from the chapel is astonishing, especially during the sunset. A bronze statue of Kosmas Barbatsis, one of the many heroes originating from Spetses, also stands there.
