Aegina Vagia beach

General information

If you’re looking for a quiet, picturesque beach, this is just the place for you. Vagia Beach lies somewhat far from the main port (12 kilometers to be precise), on the island’s northernmost edge, yet close to such sights as the ancient Temple of Aphaia, the Monastery of Agios Nektarios and the abandoned medieval town of Paleochora.

Some of the locals affirm that, in the past, the place used to be called Magia (meaning ‘magic’, ‘enchantment’), and there is, indeed, something magical about it. The hills surrounding the golden-sanded beach are covered with pine and olive trees, which exude an exquisite fragrance and thankfully provide ample shade. It is organized, with parasols and sunbeds, as well as water sports and beach volleyball facilities. On the right side, you will find a small pier that lends itself to jumping into the crystalline waters. Here, you can also enjoy fresh fish and seafood at one of the local taverns, or get a cup of coffee, snacks and refreshments from the bar. What is more, there is a little port close by, where pleasure craft and fishing boats come to drop anchor.

You can easily reach Vagia Beach by car either from Souvala or from the area of Mesagros as you descend from Agia Marina.

Bonus info: The beach has prominently featured in some of the works of the renowned Greek author Georges Sari, who lived in Vagia village for many years.
