General information

Situated within easy walking distance from the main port of Aegina (1.4 km), Kolona Beach lies, as its name indicates, to the right of the Archaeological Site of Kolona, the single remaining column of the ancient Greek Temple of Apollo which ranks among the island’s top attractions. Remnants of the ancient port are still visible along the coastline, as well as inside the pristine waters, making for a unique swimming experience.

It is mostly sandy, though there are some rocks in places. Pine trees along with some tamarisks come all the way down to the beach, providing natural shade. The sea deepens only gradually, so it is perfectly safe for little children. Though it is not organized, there are enough cafes close by for you to enjoy a cup of coffee as you take in the great sea views. There are also plenty of fish taverns serving delicious freshly cooked dishes. Thus, it is ideal for a one-day trip that combines swimming, palatable food, and culture.
