Churches are few in Mathraki and their architecture is simple. Visitors will encounter many small chapels spread all along the island, on top of capes or in the forests.
On the northern side of Mathraki, there is the small church of Saint Nicolas, protector of the seafeares, as most residents in Mathraki occupy with fishing. On the southern side, there is the church of Saint Spyridon, protector of Mathraki and of the nearby Corfu island. |

The architecture of these churches is simple. They are small in size, as residents of Mathraki are few, and have a bell tower on the side.
In Diaplo islet, there is a small church dedicated to Saint Nicolas. The legend says that Saint Nicolas once petrified a pirate ship when they tried to devastate Mathraki.
The ship was turned into the three rocky islets Plaka, Lispo and Karavi next to Diaplo. |

Churches in Mathraki don't operate frequently, because there is no priest there. They operate on the name day of the saint and in some special occasions, when a priest goes there from Corfu. |
