August 15th is the most important religious day in Greece and the Greek islands. That day, many churches in Cyclades islands celebrate with a Holy Mass early in the morning. In the evening, a public holiday in the village square follows, where people dance together, drink wine and taste local dishes. On this day, there are panigiria in all the islands of Cyclades as there is a church dedicated to Virgin Mary in every island.
