The island of Naxos is one of the most popular Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Cyclades islands group. Naxos island is a mountainous island located in the center of Cyclades. In fact, it hosts the highest mountain of the group, Mount Zas. The capital of the island, Chora, distinguishes for the traditional architecture, the well-preserved Venetian castle and the Portara at the entrance of the port, a large marble gate that constitutes the only remaining from an ancient temple.
All around the coastline, Naxos island offer fabulous beaches with golden sand and crystal water. Some of them are organized with hotels, restaurants and water sports centers, while others are totally secluded. The beaches on the western side, particularly Mikri Vigla, are ideal for windsurfing and kite surfing. A drive in the inland will bring visitors to lovely mountainous villages, interesting sightseeing and spots of natural beauty. The ancient temple of Demeter is located in a short walk from Ano Sangri, in the countryside of Naxos. It dates from the 6th century BC and was dedicated to the goddess of grain.
Koronos is a mountainous village in Naxos with picturesque architecture. Surrounded by imposing nature, many hiking trails are found in the region and lead to interesting monuments.
The village of Potamia actually consists of three settlements: Ano, Mesi and Kato Potamia. Hiking from one settlement to the other is a unique experience.
Near the village of Moni is the interesting church of Panagia Drossiani. This church was constructed in the 6th century AD and the interior has valuable wall paintings.

In the village of Halki is the interesting Distillery of Vallindras that produces kitron liqueur using the traditional methods. Visitors can see the production process and taste the liqueur.
Naxos is a wonderful island for scuba diving. The sea bottom around Naxos is rich in reefs, ship wrecks and bombarded German airplanes to explore. Diving trips to close spots are also organized.
Due to the strong summer winds, Naxos is the best island in Cyclades to enjoy windsurfing and kite surfing. These two sports are largely practiced particularly in Mikri Vigla, Laguna, Plaka and other beaches on the western side.
