Amorgos Minoan Settlement: The Ancient Minoan Settlement of Amorgos Greece

Ancient Minoan Settlement of Amorgos
The Ancient Minoan Site of AmorgosThe Ancient Minoan Settlement of Amorgos: Some ruins of an ancient Minoan civilization were found at Moundoulia Hill, just above Katapola village. The archaeological findings suggest a thriving civilization dating back to the 10th century B.C. till the 4th century A.D.  The ruins of a wall dating back to the Geometric period, which engulfed the ancient city, were evident from the remaining bastions.

There is a building dedicated to gymnasium type activities, dating back to the 4th century B.C. and dominating this ancient site.  At the peak of the ancient city, the foundation of a Geometric sanctuary is well preserved.  There is a Hellenistic temple, which is delimited by less significant altars of worship.  There is also a body of a statue erected in the middle of the area and it looks pretty imposing as well as a lavatory, at the south end of the gymnasium.
