Travel to Olympia by bus, car, train

There are daily buses from Athens to Olympia via Pyrgos. Passengers have to take a bus from Athens to Pyrgos and then another bus from Pyrgos to Olympia. The bus trip from Athens to Pyrgos is 4 hours and buses depart from Kifissos KTEL Bus Station. To go to Kifissos KTEL Bus Station, passengers have to take Bus 051 from Omonoia or Bus X93 from the airport of Athens. The bus trip from Pyrgos to Olympia is about 30 min.

There are also daily buses to Pyrgos from many towns of Greece, including Thessaloniki, Patra, Tripoli, Kalamata, Kyparissia and Ioannina. The bus trip from Pyrgos to Patra is 1 hour.

Travel to Olympia by car

To go from Athens to Olympia by car, you follow the National Highway Athens-Patra and then follow the signs to Pyrgos. At Pyrgos, you follow the signs to Olympia. The road trip is about 4 and a half hours. After the Corinth Canal and till Patras, the road gets narrow and usually has one line per direction, which is why extra attention is required by drivers.

Travel to Olympia by train

In summer, there is a local train from Katakolo, to Olympia. This train is very useful for cruise passengers who arrive in the port of Katakolon and want to visit the ancient site of Olympia.
