In brief, the International Airport of Thessaloniki receives direct flights from Athens, Heraklion, Mytilene, and Rhodes throughout the year, as well as direct and connecting flights from other Greek and European destinations during the summer season.

Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" (IATA code: SKG, ICAO code: LGTS) is the second largest airport in the country and the third busiest, visited by over 5 million passengers annually! Its name derives directly from its region (since Thessaloniki functions as the center of the Macedonia prefecture), and its distance from Thessaloniki Town is around 15 kilometers.

Established as a public airport in 1948, it was last expanded and renovated in 2021 to better host its array of incoming flights, with itineraries from over 25 countries every year!

The International Airport of Thessaloniki lies a few kilometers from the city, meaning that you will need a means of transport to reach your destination.

Buses

The cheapest way of moving from the airport to the center and outskirts of Thessaloniki is by using the bus. With a plethora of daily itineraries, urban buses are a highly reliable means of transportation, connecting the airport with all the important spots of the city! These include the port, the White Tower of Thessaloniki, Aristotle Square, the promenade, and most sights, as well as the smaller neighborhoods outside town!
Moreover, Thessaloniki has a KTEL bus connecting it to various destinations around the region of Macedonia and the rest of the country!
Tickets for the urban bus are available at kiosks and on the premises of the airport, while some buses also have the ability to provide you with a ticket upon boarding! The bus stops are located right outside of the airport.
