39th International Swimming Marathon

The 39th International Swimming Marathon will take place in Halkidiki on Saturday, July 18th and swimmers from all over the world will be challenged to swim across the gulf of Torone. Held every year since 1969, this swimming marathon is organized by the Cultural Youth Association of Nikiti Sithon. Swimmers must swim a distance of 14 n.m. from Kallithea in Kassandra peninsula to Nikiti in Sithonia peninsula having none auxiliary swimming means, just their athletic power and spirit. For safety reasons, the swimmers will be followed by speedboats in case anyone needs some held or medical assistance. Swimmers from Greece, the USA, Turkey, India, the Czech Republic and many other countries will take place in this marathon and athletes are asked to prove their competence in this difficult task. The programme will also include other activities, like exhibitions of traditional products, cooking competitions, traditional dances, a conference on the accessibility of people with special needs in tourism services and sports events.
