Located on the island's northern hills, the stunning Melissa Gorge in Lefkada is a unique sight of the island! Part of the Sfakiotes municipality, the gorge is filled with lush, awe-inspiring vegetation, featuring springs with running waters that make it a small-sized oasis! Spot friendly dogs, foxes, snakes, chirping birds, and a plethora of insects while exploring nature, whereas you may also find delicious figs and grapes before reaching the gorge!
Furthermore, visitors to Melissa Gorge will have a chance to see old abandoned mills and a handful of wells amongst the beautiful scenery! Keep in mind, though, that this is a very rough pathway, featuring many semi-broken bridges with missing wooden planks that are still not maintained at a proper level. A lack of detailed signage and weak cellphone signal also make the gorge a tricky place for a visit, so should you decide to visit Melissa, it is recommended that you come well-prepared and take plenty of water and food with you.
