Kefalonia's Vallianou Square is the central square of Argostoli, the island's capital. It got its name from Panayis Vallianos, a local benefactor who was born into a poor family but managed to earn wealth from trade. A statue depicting him, created by well-known Kefalonian sculptor George Bonanos, adorns the square.
It is paved, and visitors will see many palm trees decorating it. During summer, many cultural events and happenings take place in the square bringing together locals and travelers alike. The cafes surrounding it put out tables and chairs for their customers to sit and enjoy their drink or snack in a delightful environment where people can stroll, and kids can play safely. Additionally, as it lies in such a central spot, many shops, museums and administration buildings can be noticed around it.
