In brief, KTEL buses are the most affordable transport option in Corfu. Both urban and suburban routes are available, serving way more than the basic touristy points.
A rental car is recommended, though, for visitors who plan on exploring the island extensively.

Numerous routes can take you to a plethora of villages, beaches, the port and the airport.

Although timetables are subject to changes, KTEL buses in Corfu are considered reliable overall.

 

Bus tickets

The price of the ticket is determined by whether the trip is urban or intercity, as well as by its duration.
For intra-city journeys, the ticket costs either 1.10 EUR or 1.80 EUR, depending on your destination. Passengers can see in detail which routes correspond to each cost on the official website of Corfu's public transport system.
For suburban destinations, tickets cost from 1.60 EUR to 8 EUR. Finally, one can use an intercity bus to travel from Corfu to Athens, Thessaloniki, or Larissa. See the available routes and the detailed price list here.
Tickets for both types of services are one-way and passengers must purchase them before boarding the bus.
In the case of urban transportation, you can buy the ticket on board the bus, but at a higher price than the regular fare. The tickets can be purchased at sales points located near the stops (central bus station at San Rocco, vending machines, kiosks, etc.).
It is also possible to buy a day ticket at the price of 5 EUR.

 

Condition

The itineraries are operated by 27 urban and 62 intercity modern buses. They boast comfortable seats and are air-conditioned.
They have luggage space which you can use at no extra charge after validating your ticket.

 

Getting to your destination

City buses start from Corfu Town - San Rocco Square, Liston Square, Corfu Port, or Methodiou Street - depending on the destination.
All long-distance buses to North and South Corfu and the cities of mainland Greece start from the Corfu Green Bus Terminal, located at Leoforos Eptanisou Str. (Eptanisou Avenue).

The frequency and availability of the routes are seasonal. During summer, itineraries are increased to serve visitors other than locals.
