Opened in 1986 by Greek artist Stavros Galanopoulos, the Galanopoulos Art Gallery, located in the idyllic village of Oia, houses a collection of original artworks for use as home decoration or interior design.
The artist studied at the renowned "Greek School of Arts" in Athens and dabbled in advertising and theatre design in the early part of his career. At the age of thirty, he developed a fascination for the design and style of traditional Greek houses and it was then that he discovered his niche: interior design and decoration. After he arrived on the island of Santorini, he was so totally captivated by its beautiful color scheme and relief, that he decided to make his home on this volcanic island and devote his life to the Greek style of artwork, particularly the type found on the island.
With the assistance of locals, Stavros learned some of the ancient and now lost techniques, as well as the use of indigenous materials (earth and stone) which had been used to construct the traditional Santorinian houses. He also learned the art of painting the houses, using the old methods of the island. His sculptures and paintings have takers all over the world and are widely appreciated by many fine connoisseurs of Greek art.
The art shop also offers giclee prints, which are images generated from high-resolution digital scans and printed on canvas or paper. Particularly popular are his mix technique painting and sculpture using stone, wood, earth, sand, metal, silver or gold leaf and acrylic colors. Orders for sculptures and paintings may also be done via email or telephone. The Galanopoulos Art Shop provides a warranty that the products are exactly as shown on their website and they would be delivered to the buyer in good condition.
