Ancient windmill found in Venetian walls

• Category: News
An ancient windmill was recently discovered within the Venetian walls of Heraklion Town, in Crete, one of the major fortifications in the Mediterranean Sea. The monument was found while excavation works were conducted at the Gate of Pantokrator in the Venetian walls. Archaeologists believe that this monumental windmill could date prior to the construction of the Venetian walls. Mr Giannis Kourakos, mayor of Heraklion Town, appeared pretty satisfied with the progress of the excavations, while he announced that one of the largest arches and a low square, both parts of the Venetian walls, will be available for the public till June.  The photo is from www.ethnos.gr
