Flights to Heraklion

The International Airport Nikos Kazantzakis is found 4 km from the city centre, in the region of Nea Alikarnassos. Throughout the year it serves domestic flights from/to Athens and Thessaloniki, while in summer it operates charter flights from many European airports. The flight time from Athens to Heraklion is about 45 minutes. Many low-cost air companies also fly to Heraklion in summer season, making it the most important gateway to Crete.

Ferries to Heraklion

Direct daily ferries link Piraeus to Heraklion, the busiest port in Crete. These trips are daily or overnight and they usually last from 6 to 8 hours. The large port of Heraklion is also connected with many other Greek islands, especially in summer season. In particular, there is daily ferry connection between Heraklion and Santorini in summer. There is also ferry connection once per week with other islands of Cyclades, such as Mykonos, Paros and Milos. Threee times per week there is ferry from Heraklion to Karpathos, Kassos and Rhodes.
