General information

Prases is a small, picturesque village located 30 km south of Chania Town, at an altitude of 550 meters. The place retains its authentic character and tranquil atmosphere, displaying the traditional Cretan style with stone-built houses and picturesque alleys.

The region is full of natural beauty. As you enter the village, you will come across the Askidianos Gorge, which is surrounded by lovely pine trees. Nearby also lies the Agia Irini Gorge, boasting two beautiful churches that date back to the 13th century. The nature is lush and consists mostly of chestnut trees, olive groves, and fir trees. On the opposite side of the village, there is a small river flowing, at the edges of which you can see impressive, big trees. Next to it lies an old watermill made of stone.
In Prases, you will also find the charming Saint Paraskevi church and the Byzantine church of Saint George.

You can go hiking on the enchanting hiking trails of Prases, surrounded by the wild natural beauty. On the square of the village, you will find cafes and taverns where you can enjoy exquisite dishes of authentic Cretan cuisine. If you visit in October, you will have the chance to enjoy chestnuts served in various delicious ways at the local Chestnut Festival.
