General information

Rodovani is a charming village located 59 km from Chania Town, at an altitude of 500 meters. It was either named after Rodovan, its first inhabitant, or after the Greek word rodo, meaning rose because the region is full of flowers.

On the southern side of the village, at Kefala, researchers have discovered the ruins of ancient Elyros. It prospered during the Roman era and was allegedly the most important town in southeastern Crete. Remains of an old theater, an aqueduct, and some Roman cisterns have survived until today. In the region, you will also find the church of Panagia Kalomoiriani, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Inside it, you will see murals and mosaics depicting natural landscapes.
