“Voyage” - Seafaring and Shipbuilding in Greece from Antiquity to Modern times

Oct 01, 2016 — May 28, 2017 • Category: Events

The relation between the Greeks and sea is lost in the depths of history; their fate, always intertwined with the endless blue, made natives evolve into skillful sailors and shipbuilders, even since the prehistoric times. In the renowned Herakleidon Museum, the development of the shipbuilding art from the antiquity to modern times is being closely examined through the exhibition “Voyage” - Seafaring and Shipbuilding in Greece from Antiquity to Modern times. With more than 40 masterfully constructed ship models from various time periods, designed to the latest detail, as well as explanatory drawings, videos, artefacts and a large replica of the infamous Antikythera mechanism, the exhibition aims to explore the relation between the Greeks and seafaring, as well as familiarize the audience with the rich naval heritage of Greece.
The exhibition is available up until the 28th of May.
