The Theatre Of Disappearance - Adrian Villar Rojas
What happens when a place’s normality, facade and character are disrupted? The celebrated, provocative project “The Theatre Of Disappearance” from the renowned Argentinian artist Adrian Villar Rojas is taking over the National Observatory of Athens from June 1st to September 24th, aiming to challenge our perception of the much visited and loved neoclassical edifice.
“The Theatre Of Disappearance” is as noted an “umbrella title” of several same-themed exhibitions, during which Rojas transforms the interior and exterior of a space/building, thus challenging its usual identity. By creating separate, completely irrelevant in terms of character spaces within a given space, the artist directs an intriguing game where what is familiar is dissolved and controversy replaces the status quo.
The project, conducted and delivered by NEON, has already taken place in the MET Museum of New York, while after Greece it will continue its successful 2017 European tour. The opening hours are 11:00 to 21:00, while those interested in exploring the installation are advised to wear trainers or flat comfortable shoes.
