The Athens Open-Air Film Festival is a movie-related cultural event that takes place every year in the heart of Greece’s capital! Due to it being the largest celebration of vintage and contemporary films in the city, this festival will be hosted in over ten destinations around Athens, while it will also have a brief stop in the islands of Serifos and Mykonos! This multifaceted festival will take place from the 23rd of June until the 5th of September 2023, showcasing films such as the world-famous The Lion King, the iconic Enter the Dragon, and the Hitchcock classic North by Northwest amongst others.
Starting in 2011, the yearly Athens Open-Air Film Festival has helped bring new people into the underground world of films and showcase hidden gems of the visual arts! It has been housed in over 50 different places, such as the Epidaurus, the Lycabettus Theater, the paved street of Dionysiou Areopagitou, Kotzia Square, and various cinemas like Cine Riviera, Cine Psirri, and Aigli of Zappeion!
Past film screenings include Jean Vigo’s L’ Atalante, the polarizing Lolita of Stanley Kubrick, and the 2007 final cut of the sci-fi masterpiece Blade Runner, featuring the astonishing soundtrack of Vangelis Papathanasiou!
