The Athens Marathon is an annual event that has been a staple of Greece’s capital since it first took place back in ancient Greece! A true historical landmark of Athens, the Marathon, along with a handful of shorter sprints, will again be hosted on the 11th and 12th of November, 2023!
The Marathon of Athens, a world-renowned event, is characterized by a lengthy, double-curved pathway, starting from the stadium of Marathon in northeastern Attica and ending up in the legendary Panathenaic Stadium, minutes away from Syntagma Square and the Hellenic Parliament. Every participant is equipped with a bib/competition number and a race kit, whereas some runners may also ask for a complimentary backpack, a face towel, and a transportation card!
Apart from the all-time classic, adult-only 42-kilometer Marathon (November 12th), three more sprint races will take place, namely the 5-kilometer race, the 10-kilometer race, and the 1.2-kilometer kids' race, open for children born between 2012 and 2014! Plus, this year there will be a bonus Universities' 10-kilometer run, available only for students with an academic ID card! All participants will be provided with numerous bottles of water, as well as free-of-charge isotonic drinks for Marathon runners.
