Aeschylia Festival 2023

Since the city of Elefsina has been awarded the honor of Europe’s Capital of Culture for the year, the annual happening of Elefsina’s Aeschylia Festival will have an extended length, starting on the 27th of August and ending in the month of October!

Activating previously unused spaces of Elefsina for the first time (like the wetland of Vlycha and the coastal road), the festival of Aeschylia will be filled with entertaining music shows, theatrical plays, dances, art showcases, and team half-marathon runs! The festival has been a yearly cultural event since 1975, a year after the end of Greece’s military junta, hosting well-known acts and groundbreaking shows!

This year’s Aeschylia Festival will present Maria Farantouri, one of Greece’s most renowned singers, a concert tribute to the great composer Stavros Xarchakos, a play from Pinelopi Delta’s book Paramithi Xoris Onoma, a semi-marathon from Elefsina to Athens, the ancient theater play of Oedipus, the poignant up-and-coming rapper To Sfalma, and the legendary Greek rock singer Vasilis Papakonstantinou! Plus, it has also hosted plenty of fantastic artists and acts in the past, including Pavlos Pavlidis, the late Lavrentis Machairitsas, the National Theater of Northern Greece, and an array of film screenings!
