Sparti is a small town but it has a rich culture, which is depicted in the lovelt festivals that are held in the area, mostly in summer.
Apart from the religious festivals that every church in Sparti organizes on the name day of its patron saint, there are also many cultural festivals that take place.
Such is Sainopouleio Festival that takes place every summer in Sainopouleio Amphitheatre, about 3 km west of Sparti. This festival includes cultural events, such as theatre performances, musical concerts of famous Greek artists and lectures with various themes. |

These events take place in July and August and the schedule is usually published in June.
Another interesting festival takes place in early September in the mountainous village of Sellasia, about 15 km north of Sparti. This is the Festival of Olive Tree and Olive Oil.
As the area of Sparti, and Laconia in general, is famous for its high-quality olive oil, which is considered as the best in Greece, it comes as no surprise that such a festival is organized there. |

The Festival of Olive Oil includes lectures on the cultivation and the importance of this product, exhibitions of olive oil producers, cooking contests with recipes using olive oil, musical concerts and many other interesting events. It usually takes place in the second weekend of September. |
