Halkidiki Porto Koufo 01
Porto Koufo village Halkidiki: Porto Koufo is a tiny fishing hamlet located on the south-west tip of Sithonia peninsula in Halkidiki. The village has an impressive history, even mentioned by Thucydides, the famous ancient Greek historian, who refers to Porto Koufo as "Kofos Limin", meaning "the deaf harbor".

In the Medieval times, the harbor of Porto Koufo was used by the Turkish pirates and in the Second World War its strategic location in the Aegean Sea made it a convenient base for the German Navy. Surrounded by a wild and rugged landscape, the village also has a small beach, ideal for families. In the surrounding area, there are many other lovely beaches, such as Tristinika and Toroni.

In mid September, the village of Pouto Koufo celebrates the Festival of Tuna Fishing. These are game fishing day trips organized by experienced captains. The rocky shoreline of Porto Koufo has many caves that can be visited by boat. The region is popular with tourists, particularly families and romantic couples. The lush green landscape provides lovely walking paths.
