Lefkada Monastery of Archangel Michael

Spotted right outside the village of Vafkeri, on a provincial road filled with all kinds of majestic trees, visitors will spot the stunning Monastery of Archangel Michael (or Monastery of Asomati) in Lefkada!
Amongst lushly-vegetated surroundings, the monastery of Archangel Michael was once one of the richest monasteries on the island of Lefkada, whereas now its outdoor space is mostly consisting of ruins.

This stone-built monastery is said to have been founded (or renovated) during the 16th century by a prestigious, wealthy family. A large settlement consisting of 19 rooms, guestrooms, various storage rooms, and stables, a vast majority of the monastery’s spaces are now remnants of what used to be. Hosting a bell tower, the chapel is one of the main exhibits that have stood the test of time, boasting interior walls that are decorated with a variety of icons, the most famous of which depict the Virgin Mary of Platytera and Jesus’ Ascension!

The monastery celebrates on September 6th, whereas various sacred services also take place during Easter and the summertime!

The Monastery of Archangel Michael is located close to Vafkeri Village.
