Location: Nikiana

One of the oldest Christian monuments of the island, the Hermitage of Agii Pateres in Lefkada is a must-visit for any person traveling between the villages of Alexandros and Nikiana, regardless of religious beliefs! The main cave-like structure will leave you in awe from the first second since its entrance seems to be held up by a single wooden tree trunk! It has a stone-built design, a couple of wooden windows, and a narrow interior space.

Located atop the mountain of Skaros, this monastery is said to have its origins set back in 325 AD when three monks built this structure and decided to settle down. Since then, a few more buildings have been created, and a handful of monks and nuns have spent their lives inside the settlement of Agii Pateres! Nowadays, the cave building houses a handful of wooden designs and plenty of Orthodox icons, and one may also spot a bell tower. On top of that, the hermitage celebrates every 7th Sunday after the week of Easter!
