The lovely little port of Nidri is full of small fishing boats, luxury yachts and sailboats. Various events are organised during the summer in Nidri, from religious celebrations to interesting cultural performances or exhibition.
Hotels, taverns, restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs can be found in the town and the surrounding area. A small museum can be visited in Nidri and outside of the village one can admire the remains of a prehistoric settlement, an aqueduct and some circular tombs.

Our Impressions |
Amid the picturesque background of bays and boats Nidri sticks out like a sore thumb. The main street runs on and on, full of bars, fast food places and tourist shops. The village is certainly not in the running for the prettiest on the island. There are a lot of package tourists here and parallel with the main street is a often thin strip of sand/pebbles. Behind this the hotels are simply crammed in. The beach faces a busy bay which is a hive of water activity. People here indulge in speed boats, jetskis, tube rides etc. Beyond the bay one gets a very good view of Madhouri island. Near to the village’s beach is a marina which houses some expensive looking yachts.
You can find signs from the village to the nearby waterfall. The drive takes you to the bottom of a path where there is a taverna. From here it’s a five minute walk before you reach the rocks and water of the fall. From here on in the journey is a bit treacherous and the stones slippery with only a handrail to help. You are basically walking up the waterfall so be careful. If you do make it you will find a pool of water at the end above which there is about 30 metres of water down which the water streams in two jets. The rock has been discoloured by the water. The pool at the bottom is quite small but people do jump in for a quick swim before journey back down the rocky face.
This is the most ‘touristy’ village on the island and is very busy. But the view out to the bay and the islands is very good. If you do visit the village then then 3km trip to the waterfall is worth it.
