Most villages on Kefalonia were highly affected by a strong earthquake in 1953, which destroyed many houses and public buildings. The only village that came untouched by the earthquake was Fiscardo, on the northern side of the island, which stands out for its colourful walls and the picturesque port.

Description: One of the prettiest villages on Kefalonia, Kourkoumelata distinguishes for its architecture of traditional and Neoclassical style. Its houses have been built on the slopes of a hill.
Location: 30 km west of Argostoli
Description: This village is a short ferry ride away from Argostoli and there are quite a few similarities between the two. Lixouri is obviously smaller than Argostoli but it has a lovely waterfront and elegant architecture.

Description: Peratata is a small village built on the slopes of a hill. The castle of Saint George and the monastery of Agios Andreas dominate the village.

Description: Poros is a picturesque village and one of the main ports of Kefalonia. This is where the ferries from Killini Peloponnese arrive.
