The
fertile soil of the island of Lemnos produces various
fruits (Lemnos is famous for its excellent figs), vineyards,
wheat, nuts, thyme, almonds and vegetables.
Some of the local specialities of Lemnos are the feta
cheese, the cheese called “salamoura”, a kind of salad
with raw string beans called “gyftofasoula”, lobster on
coals, octopus in embers, traditionally cooked mussels,
golden honey, sweets and pastries.
The local wine is also famous for its taste, particularly
the dry white wine called "Moshato".
The local ouzo called "Kondias" is also famous in Greece. Lemnos
also produces fine potteries, wood-carvings, ceramics,
embroideries, weavings and silk. |
