Here are some of the many beautiful churches, monasteries and chapels which are embellishing the island of Ikaria.
Small church in Marathos Village

The Church of Agios Kirikos
The Church of Agia Irini (Saint Irene)

This 12th century church is located in the village of Kambos, near the port of Evdilos.

It is the oldest church of Ikaria, built on the site of a 4th century basilica. The columns standing in the ground are the only remains of the basilica.

The church houses some fine frescoes of a great artistic beauty.
The Chapel of Theoskepasti (God Covered)

It is lying between the villages of Pigi and Maratho, on the southern part of Ikaria.

This Metropolis is one of the most important sights of the capital of Ikaria. It is dedicated to saint Demetrios (Demetrius).

This church was very important during the years of the pirate raids because the islanders wereescaping through the trap door of the Metropolis to seek
refuge in the many caves of Ikaria.

Agia Varvara Church
The Church of Kimisis tis Theotokou

This parish church is standing in the village of Langada, in the south-western part of the island.
The steeple of Agia Irini in Kambos

It is dedicated to the Virgin and is an old church housing a superb wooded carved iconostasis and fine icons embellishing its walls.
It is a little granite roofed chapel worth-visiting for the unusual site on which it is standing. The skulls of some monks are housed inside the chapel.
