Holidays in Chios

    Located on the Eastern Aegean Sea, Chios is a large island with authentic character. Although there are many adorable beaches to relax, Chios island is mostly famous for its Medieval villages.     The island of Chios is one of the Greek islands of the Aegean Sea and it belongs to the Eastern Aegean islands group. Chios island is located at the Eastern Aegean Sea, very close to the coasts of Turkey. It has small family beach resorts and large secluded beaches. The most beautiful beach on Chios island is Mavra Volia, on the southernmost spot of the island, but there are also nice seaside villages with delicious restaurants to relax on your Chios holidays.

    However, Chios Greece is mostly famous for its Medieval villages. Pyrgi and Olympia have characteristic walls with geometric designs, while Anavatos, Volissos and theTown have large Byzantine castles on the hills above them.     Central square of Pyrgi
    Pyrgi is a lovely village with Medieval style and geometric patterns on the external walls of the houses. This is among the most beautiful villages on the island.
    Beautiful beach of Mavra Volia
    Located on the southern side of the island, close to Emporios, Mavra Volia is probably the most beautiful beach on the island. It has black sand and pebbles and wild landscape.
    Medieval village of Olympi
    Another Medieval village in southern Chios, Olympi has the architecture of a fortress, with stone walls and narrow paths. Close to Olympi, there is an interesting cave.
    Interesting monastery of Nea Moni
    Constructed in the 15th century with Byzantine style, the Monastery of Nea Moni was recently declared a world heritage monument by Unesco. It is found in the centre of the island.
    Deserted village of Anavatos
    Anavatos is a deserted village on the western side of Chios. This Medieval village has an old castle on top, many ruined building and Byzantine churches.
    Mastic production of Chios
    Chios is rich in mastic trees, particularly on the southern side of the island. This mastic is widely used in many products, from cosmetics to pharmaceutics.
